Here is the short history of the Jhansi Community. Our formation House, Divyanjali at Jhansi is situated in the Northern part of the Jhansi Diocese surrounded by three religious formation houses, Diocesan Minor Seminary and Parish. Sr. Christine Vas, the first Provincial Superior approached the Bishop of Jhansi, Most Rev. Bishop Frederick D’Souza for a piece of land for formation. He was too gracious and offered 4 acres of land for the formation house with boundary wall on 3 sides.

The foundation for the boundary of St Charles Convent Jhansi was blessed by Rev. Fr. Stephen Vas the Rector of the minor seminary in the presence of Fr. Norbert, .Sr. Christine Vas, Sr. Sabina and Sr. Mary Jacob on the feast of the Holy Rosary on 7th October 2007. The foundation stone for the formation house was blessed by Rev. Fr. Stephan Vas on Wednesday 31st October in the presence of Sr. Christine and Sr. Mary Fernandez, the Superior of Shivpuri Convent. Sr. Christine stayed in seminary for a few days to supervise the construction work. She also took Bible classes for the seminarians. The communities of Hoshangabad and Shivpuri transferred money to begin the initial work.

Sr. Christine wrote many projects to get financial help to construct the building work and stayed with DSS sisters now and then in order to supervise the work. Sr. Salesia – the Provincial and Sisters were very kind and hospitable. Rev. Fr. Norbert from Cathedral College was a great blessing who visited the construction site now and then, checked all the bills, made weekly payments and maintained accurate accounts.
Sr. Christine made constant visits to Jhansi and stayed for longer period to supervise the work. Finance was the major problem. Newly constructed formation house was blessed by His Lordship Most Rev. Bishop Frederick D’Souza on the 23rd of August and was inaugurated by Rev. Mother Benedicta Lobo the Superior General in the presence of Srs. Emily and Sheila the General councillors, Sr. Christine our provincial and her team, the Provincials Sr. Damian and Sr. Jaya, other Formators, formees, fathers, sisters well wishers and our faithful friends who toiled hard for 10 months to build this beautiful house.
The Lord was very generous towards us and also our benefactors. The province owes much to his Lordship for his graciousness, kindness and generosity towards us. When Sr. Christine asked Bishop if any payment to be made for the land, the Bishop replied “DEVOUT CONSECRATED souls adoring Jesus in the Sacred Tabernacle will itself be a great blessing for the diocese’. He had intense love for the Lord and also for us. Having received such a great blessing the province is ready to serve the diocese when our services will be required.
Srs. Christine, Elizabeth Chacko-councillor, Leena Pinto the Postulants Directress, Asha Baxla and 13 candidates were warmly welcomed by Sr. Mary Fernandez Superior of shivpuri community. Since then, this house has been catering for the growth and development of the formees. The community at Shivpuri and Provincialate continue to support financially. Inter province meetings, retreats and other gatherings are also held here. Two sisters collaborate in the diocesan school at Judepur and they receive salary for their work.
The bishop and Priests continue to provide spiritual help and sisters from other congregations are helpful to us. We also have made our presence felt by reaching out to the people in neighbouring village; special School and participation in Novena for St. Jude’s feast and other occasions. We thank the Almighty God and the intercession of St. Jude for providing this place as a boon for us. Since the Province was newly erected and financially weak, the generosity of the bishop and diocese was a timely blessing.
