Seoni : St. Charles Convent, Seoni Malwa
Seoni Malwa is a city and a municipality in Hoshangabad district Madhya Pradesh. State Highway MP SH 15 passing through this city. National Highway 12 (India) is approx 60 km from Banapura. National Highway 69 (India) is 35 km from Banapura via Hoshangabad. Seoni Malwa is connected with Mumbai, New Delhi, Bhopal, Jabalpur, etc., via broad gauge train route. A railway station is located at Banapura. Through Banapura Railway Station Seoni Malwa is connected with the Indian railways. Seoni Malwa is a town 48 kms away from Hoshangabad Dt. surrounded by more than 40 villages.
In 2016, Sr. Christine took the initiative of seeking permission from Sr. Sebasti – Provincial and Council to look for some suitable land for educational purpose at Seoni Malwa to continue our educational and pastoral ministry. A plot of land was located near Bharlay, 1 km away from Hoshangabad Harda NH, 6 kms away from Seoni Town. After a year’s painstaking search, 9 and half acres of agricultural land was purchased from Mr. Sharma and was registered on 28th March 2017. Sr. Sebasti- Provincial was present on this occasion.
Meantime the application for opening a Primary School was submitted online to the Education department and got permission to run classes up to Std. 8 which was a big achievement. A small building ( Dal Mill ) was taken on rent for 11 months on the roadside, 4 kms away from Seoni Town and we were blessed with 40 students from the nearby villages. The classes commenced on 1st July 2017, Sr. Florin Rego as the 1st H.M and Miss Hoovy with another teacher from the locality. Both of them travelled up and down from Hoshangabad to Seoni for a year facing all odds which is truly praiseworthy.
Soya Bean and wheat is cultivated as the canal is a great blessing. The water source was divined by Fr. Joy Thomas and a bore well was bored on the 6th of March 2018. The lay out for the school building was done on the 19th March 2018, the corner stone was blessed by Rev. Fr. Lancy Fernandes, on 2nd April 2018 in the presence of Sr. Christine Vas, the Vice Superior General, Florin and other sisters from the community.
Sr. Veronica Quadros was appointed in May as the H.M of the budding school and in charge of the community. The strength of the school became 84. On 19th June 2018, the slab for the Ist floor was cast. By 10th July 2018, 5 classrooms were ready. Srs. Veronica and staff are appreciated for commuting from HBD to Seoni till Dec. 2018 in spite of the extreme weather conditions. They resided at Seoni from Jan 2019 as the school construction was on progress.
On 9th July 2019, Sr. Veronica was installed as the Superior. The strength of the school is 162 and the public is very happy and appreciative of the quality and all round education catered to the village children surrounding Bharlay. 20 classrooms and 5 smaller rooms are constructed. They reach out to the people of neighbouring villages, cultivate the land, coach the slow learners, visit the families and strengthen the faith of the handful Catholics residing at Seoni. God’s mighty hand is recognized in the realization of this dream and we hope that this mission grows in leaps and bounds catering to many.
