History of Pabianice community and Home for the aged

God’s plan for the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo, in Poland is very mysterious. Having worked for many years with outsiders and others institutions all the sisters had a strong urge to have our own apostolate and all the sisters were motivated towards the same goal. . After sufficient prayer and reflection, the sisters decided to have a home for the aged, answering to the need of the time and the place. Knowing well, the difficulties and challenges, we were ready to make sacrifices and take up this daring step so as to realize our charism of incarnating Gods love to the most needy of our society
The Superior General, Mother Benedicta and her councilors were happy with our decision and granted the permission to proceed with necessary undertaking starting from purchase of land and its construction. Well it was a herculean task but trusting in the Providence as always we went ahead with hope and courage. All of us desired to have this new Mission established in the Diocese of Lodz as we were well known in this city and enjoyed good acquaintances among priests and people. Providentially we are directed to Pabianice, the place where we had the first community of Poland and unfortunately we had closed it five years ago. the Parish Priest, Fr.SławomirCiebiada, was too happy to have us back in his parish and realize his dream of having a Home for the Aged in the vicinity.

Sr. Boniface, the Regional superior shared our plans with the parish priest. Once again it was definitely God’s providence that the parish priest worked tirelessly to purchase the plot in front of the parish church lying vacant belong to the Government. It was more than we asked for to obtain a land in front of the church to build the home, easily catering to the spiritual needs of the sisters as well as the senior citizens. Our joy knew no bounds when finally, on April 17th 2007, the plot was blessed by the Archbishop of Lódź Władysłał Ziółek.

Then began the most difficult and essential part of collecting the necessary finance to continue the work so well begun. It was a tedious job for the Regional superior and all the sisters of Poland worked earnestly to find ways and means of getting the finance.
All suggestions and proposals were considered and we appealed to every nook and corner for financial help It was the starting point to make fervent efforts to collect financial help. We took almost 2 years to have a substantial amount in order to start the construction work.

We are indeed grateful to many sources like the Generalate in Belgium, Mother Benedicta and councillors the Indian Provinces, the communities in Italy, Argentina, for the support, encouragement, prayers besides financial help. We thank also other generous benefactors among whom we owe a special mention of Mrs and Mr D’colle from Belgium and of course the Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Sławomir Ciebiada. Without the generous contribution of those mentioned here the Home for the Aged would not have seen the light of day.

We pray God’s blessings on all of them. Drops of water make an ocean, so also, We do not underestimate the efforts and sacrifices of all the sisters in Poland who joyfully contributed every penny they could spare from each community and making extra effort to collect money through various ways. We owe our sincere gratitude to Fr. Sławomir Ciebiada, who reached out in every way to help us even in supervising the construction work, with a condition to have a room for himself in this home during his old age and to take care of him. Special word of thanks to the Regional Superior Sr. Boniface who spent most of her energy and time for the success of this new mission.

As all beginnings, Pabianice too had its share of ups and downs and has grown strong & steady through the pangs of early growing. We are proud of the fact that the sick elderly are sheltered and loved with utmost care and concern to enhance joy, peace, happiness and serenity in their old age. The inauguration of the newly built HOME took place………on in the presence of the Superior General Rev. Sr. Saroj, Mother Andrea, the Foundress of Poland Mission , Sr. Hazel Aranha, the General Councillor, Sr. Boniface and all the sisters of Poland Region. It was blessed by the parish priest in the presence of few local important personalities. Sr. Leena Mascarenhas, Leena Pinto, Alis Martis, Wieslawa were the pioneers of this community with Sr Leena Mascarenhas as the superior.

We are happy and proud to witness the growth of this new mission. There has been great demand to admit more inmates and so we were obliged to convert the outpatient section into rooms for the aged. At present 40 sick seniors are lodged in this HOME, which is its full capacity.
