Chojny 2000

Community of Chojny like Andrzejow belongs to the Diocese of Lodz and is about 30 kms away from the Andrzejow. This community came into existence when we were looking for our nursing sisters to be employed in a hospital. Sr. Boniface, the Regional Superior , expressed this need to a religious sister working in the Bishop’s House, she was gracious to direct Sr. Boniface to the hospital run by the St. John of God brothers (Bonifrat Brothers).
The rector, Br. Francis, was only too happy to welcome sisters to work in their hospital as incidentally they too were looking for religious sisters to be part of their healing mission. After the initial formalities Srs. Leena Mascarenhas and Alis Martis began working in the hospital of the Bonifrat Brothers commuting daily from Fabianice community, which of course was tiring and time consuming.

As Providence would arrange all for our good, on the day of the consecration of the parish of Chojny, Srs. Boniface and others were invited for the function. In the course of this encounter, the parish priest Fr. Wladyslaw Loyan was more than happy to accommodate the sisters in the part of the parish building within the church campus. It goes without saying that a sister had to render her services in the parish. Even today the parish priest, Fr. Wladyslaw Loyan considers the presence of the sisters as a gift of God to his parish. Srs. Marjorie, Leena Mascarenhas and Alis Martis were the pioneers of this new community and were officially welcomed by the parish priest, the parishioners and the Bonifrat brothers on 2nd September 2000 during a solemn Eucharistic celebration.

Sr. Marjorie gladly extended her generous and effective service as a full time sacristan besides beautifying the church for all the nuptials. The decorations were so good that many parishioners preferred her work than hiring the official decorators. Srs. Leena Mascarenhas and Alis Martis continued their healing ministry with the St. John of God brothers which is just 10 minutes walk from the community. Although there were quite a few changes in the community sisters, their ministry is continued with more zeal and involving in the faith animation of the youth. The religious presence of the sisters in the hospital is considered a boon by the patients and the hospital authority. Sisters did not spare their time and energy to start the SCB association in the parish and they are very actively involved to reach out to the poor and needy of the parish and the locality.
