AMMOOR -1971

The convent at Ammoor is located along side of the cross road between Walajah and Walajah Railway staion, where Ceylon repatriates are housed. The place is inhabited by Hindu and Muslim population who run quite a number of tanneries. Ammoor belonged to Vellore District but in 2019 placed within the newly formed Ranipet District.

It was Mr. Michael, one of Ranipet parishioners and the then station master of Walaja Road Railway Station, who informed Mother Ann Mary about the availability of land for purchase at Ammoor. Mother Ann Mary the then Superior of Ranipet purchased the 8 acres and 28cents of land at Ammoor. Ammoor community was originally a satellite community of Little Flower Convent Ranipet. The registration was done on August 11, 1969. Rev.Fr.C.M. Peter the parish priest of Ranipet blessed the land. A small house was built and blessed on May 31, 1971 by Rev.Fr.Christi.

This land was a source of income that sustained partially the maintenance of the home for children at Ranipet. This farm house turned into formation house for the candidates from 1987 to 1992. There were 10 candidates in the first batch which was accommodated there. On 26th September 1987 the Bishop of Vellore Rt. Rev. Michael Augustine installed the Sacred presence of our Lord.

This formation house was shifted from Ammoor in 1993 to Arpana at Perambur, Chennai but the farm work was supervised by the Sisters from Ranipet who visited every day. On May 31, 1999 a community was installed again for the purpose of opening an English medium Primary School in order to reduce the overcrowded classes and over flowing strength in the School at Ranipet. The foundation stone was laid for the school on the 15th December1999. Then superior of Ranipet Sr. Sagayam put in a lot of hard work to construct the building and shift the School from Ranipet to Ammoor. The school commenced on 6th June 2001. Sr.Paula headed the new community with Sr.Kani Rajam as the first Principal of the School.

The community also extends its pastoral work, Social developmental work, Prison ministry and so on. It still strives to reach out to the poor and needy of the locality both spiritually and materially.

St. Charles convent at Ammoor which was affiliated to Little Flower convent Society so long now functions independently as St. Charles Society, Ammoor from February 18th 2019.
