Carlo Bhavan Community Care Centre - Gummudipoondi

The two spiritual giants whose footsteps we follow are our founder Fr.Adrien Bresy and our patron, St Charles Borromeo. During their life time all their yearnings were, “What more could we do for the people of god!” The celebration of the platinum jubilee of our mission in 2004 compelled us to do something more for the neglected ones of the society. A proposal that soared up was to start a HIV/AIDS centre. The first step toward the actualization of this project was to form a team that would chalk out the action plan and systematically work at it. Srs.Alphonsa Paul, Laly Kuriakose and Lucy Kuriakose as a team started the initial effort to actualise this mission.

On October 18, 2005 Sr.Saroj, Sr. Sagayam, Sr.Alphonsa Paul and Sr.Laly met the Most Rev.Dr.A.M.Chinnappa, the archbishop of Madras Mylapore and got his approval in person to start the work at Gummidipoondi. Sr.Mary Queen the provincial councillor in charge of MSP of the Eastern Province accompanied Srs. Laly and Alphonsa to Prithvinagar to tidy up the house taken as rent. On October 20, 2005 this house was blessed by the parish priest Rev.Fr.Amal Sudakar IMS. Sr.Saroj her councilors wished the team the best and assured them their support. On December 9, 2005 a stretch of six acres of land purchased from Mrs Vasantha at Kuruvattucherry Village in Gummidipoondi was Registered.

The official opening of the convent and the community centre took place on April 2, 2008. Rev.Sr.Jaya the provincial superior unveiled the slab and Most Rev.Dr.Chinnappa the Arch Bishop of Mylapore blessed the house.

Positive cases of HIV/AIDS are admitted in the Centre. While they are given a good care through required medical treatment and good nutrition, the sisters maintain their communication with their families through visits, counselling and prayer that gradually changes their attitude towards their dear ones and accept them back into their home.

The dispensary functions throughout the day and the patients come from near and far places. Apart from general medicine we also treat patients for various skin diseases. A duty Doctor is appointed for 8 hours of service. We the sisters offer our service tirelessly, day and night.
