Origin: Colours of day dawned for the people of Pattudaiyaniruppu, Muganthanur on 29.08 2005 as we the Sisters of St.Charles Eastern Province pitched our tent in the Diocese of Thanjavur.
Purpose: This house was born at the request of his grace Rt.Rev.Devadass Ambrose D.D, the Bishop of Thanjavur to take up the Educational, Pastoral and Social ministries in Pattudaiyaniruppu. He had agreed to give a Govt., aided post in the School initially and one more later.
Our new presence in the Diocese of Thanjavur was created to care for the Tsunami affected girls by the Congregation and to provide vocational training.
Rev.Fr.M.L Charles the Parish priest of Adaikala Annai Church pattudaiyaniruppu warmly and cordially received us. He welcomed the Sisters with an open mind and took keen interest to make our stay comfortable and saw to our every need in detail .A house was leased for two years from Mr.Dharmaraj and forty coconut trees were allotted for the use of the Sisters.
Blessing of the house: 29th August 2005 was the day of rejoicing. This day was marked by a memorable event. Our house which was taken on lease for two years became our own and was blessed by his Grace Rt. Rev.Devadass Ambrose D.D, the Bishop of Thanjavur at 10 a.m. on 29th August 2005. Rev.Sr.Christy Saroj the Provincial of the Eastern Province cut the ribbon, Rev.Fr.Charles the Parish Priest, the Councillors- Srs.Jaya, Josita, Mary Queen and all the Superiors of the communities of Eastern Province graced this occasion. The presence of the Parishners, village people, teachers and students were highly appreciable. The people expressed their deep joy and gratitude and honoured the Bishop. Sr.Saroj addressed the gathering and thanked everyone for their generosity in accepting us to work in this diocese and the people of Pattudaiyaniruppu.
The Pioneers: Sr.Amala-Superior, Sr.Victoria Arul Rani and Sr.Pauline Arockia Mary. Sr.Amala was taking tailoring classes for the girls from Tsunami affected families and for the girls from the village. Sr.Victoria Arul Rani was taking care of the Pastoral work, typing and computer classes. Sr.Pauline Arockia Mary was helping in the School for one month and then she went for her final vows preparation. As there was no vacancy in the School we did not continue in the teaching work. We were conducting the evening classes for the children in the convent premises.
Ten Children from Velankanni orphaned during Tsunami were taken care of by our Sisters. The feast of St.Charles first time in Mugandanur was celebrated in simple and meaningful manner in the house. Sisters Lovina and Sr.Mary who were working at Tharangambady for the widows of the Tsunami affected areas. The parish Priest Rev.Fr.M.L.Charles celebrated the holy Mass.
25.12.2005: Sr.Elizabeth Verghese and the Postulants who were working with the Tsunami affected venues joined us for Christmas celebration.
28.04.2006: We had the first annual day of our Tailoring class. Eight students among tsunami victims and sixteen students of the village girls received the Certificates. Sr.Ursula SCB was the Chief guest, the president of the village Mr.Bharath kumar and the Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Charles, Pattudaiyaniruppu witnessed the function.
05.07.2006: Five girls, Tsunami victims from Velankanni were cared during this year.
01.08.2006: Sr.Arockiammal from Ranipet Little Flower Primary School was transferred to Punitha Adaikala Annai Middle School at Pattudaiyaniruppu. As per the Bishop’s agreement a post is given to us and Sr.Arockiammal rendered her valuable service in the RCM School.
28.08.2006: A new set of seven girls joined the needle work classes. Teacher Sathiya continued to teach this year also for the Tsunami victims and local girls. This programme was closed after a year.
29.08.2006: The first anniversary of our landing here was celebrated prayerfully.
30.08.2006: Two machines to cut dried arecanut leaf stalks were purchased from Anuply craft Madurai. Sr.Victoria and Ms.Sathya learned the work from Gandhigram Dindigul. Self-help group women started producing the plates. Arecanut palms were collected from our land. The first offering was done at Velankanni after selling the plates at the rate of Rs. 250/- per piece. The cost of the machines was Rs. 15,000/- and Rs.13, 500/-.
20.04.2007: Sr.Mary Cinthiya joined the Punidha Adaikala Annai Middle School, Pattudaiyaniruppu in the place of Mr.Vincent Arul Raj who expired while in service. Thus we got the second post in the School.
21.04.2007: The foundation was laid by Sr.Jaya Mary the Provincial and Sr.Punitha.M her Councilor. Rev.Fr.Charles the Parish Priest blessed the foundation. The old shed with the pump room was demolished and a hall with two rooms in the first floor was planned in that place. A local mason took up the contract to complete this work.
11.06.2007: We started the evening classes for poor children of the locality.
16.09.2007: Rev.Fr.M.L.Charles, Parish Priest of Pattudaiyaniruppu blessed “The Marian Cottage” and Rev.Sr.jaya Mary; the Provincial unveiled the memorial stone. The Parish Choir melodiously sang the hymns of praises to God. Rev.Fr.M.L.Charles, Srs.Jaya Mary, Punitha, Josita and the leader of the Parish Council Mr.Kulandaisamy lit the Kuthu vilakku.
