The number of sisters in the province of India and the activities were growing larger. The general council decided to bi-furcate Bangalore Province for effective administration. Hence the communities that were in Tamilnadu, Kerala and Andhra were brought under a new province with the name ‘Eastern Province’.
The new province was christened on 8th January 1983 and the first provincial was Sr.Rene. The new provincial set up the administration office at Little Flower Convent, Ranipet and was searching for suitable place in Chennai. In 1984 a property with a small house at Perambur Chennai was purchased for 2.5 lakhs and was registered under the Society of ‘Eastern Province of the Sisters of St. Charles’. With a view to extend the apostolate and to set up a facilitative office for administration, Sr Rene, purchased 90 cent of land in Vinayagapuram, Puthagaram Panchayat- Thiruvallur Dt.
A building was constructed in Vinayagapuram in 1997 when Sr.Ignatius Thomas the second provincial of the province was holding the office as the Provincial. In 1998 the provincial house was shifted form Charles Villa, Perambur to Puthagaram, Vinayagapuram and named as Adrien Villa. It was blessed on January 29, 1998 the birthday of our beloved founder, Fr.Adrien Bresy.
The pioneers of this community are, Sr.Ignatius, Sr. Jaya, Sr. Josephine Doss, Sr. Joseph, Sr. V.Arockia, Sr.Arul Arockia, Sr.Lilly K and Sr.Prabha
To cater to the poor children quality education a Matricultion School was started at Kathirvedu village about three Kms from Adrien Villa. On June 12, 2006 the school building was blessed.
We being the only women religious community in the parish, we take active participation in the pastoral activities of the parish such as, catechism, preparing the children and adults for Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage rectification etc., family visits, B.C.C, taking care of the Church linen and decoration of the altar on Sundays and feast days.
Tailoring class for a small group of women coming from the vicinity of the Convent and evening tuition classes for children from the houses around the convent are some of the activities that are carried on for the welfare of the Society.
Children sponsored by donors are invited occasionally along with their parents to furnish the data needed for communication.
A house for candidates (G+1) was blessed on December 10, 2000 and named after Mother Catherine Warquain, one of the five co-foundresses and the first superior of the founding community in Belgium.
The Provincialate keeps busy with its administrative office inviting people of different walks and Sisters from communities in India and abroad. Gatherings of Sisters at different levels for meetings are frequent here. Sisters in need of city hospital treatment and those convalescing from major operations are given special care.
It’s truly a hive of busy bees industrious and lively though hidden away from the clamor of the city.
