New Serchhip

Assam Rifles has established their camp during the Mizo National Front uprising in New Serchhip area, since then the place is occupied. In 1976, the Village council in Serchhip started to plan the whole village for residential area. Most of the district level Government offices also started within this area. Christianity is the major religion in the village. There are numerous construction labourers coming from Karimganj, Bihar and Bangladesh who are working in the village for a period of time The main source of income is sustained by Government services Literacy rate is almost 100%. Anganwadi centers contributed a lot in the literacy. Adult education programme also running smoothly.

The New Serchhip Community was founded on 15th Dec.in 2005. It is the second community in Mizoram, Hnahthiyal being the 1st one. It is located112km. away from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. It was founded by Sr. Christine our Ist Provincial of Northern Province under the guidance of Superior General Rev. Mother Benedicta Lobo. Fr.S.Michael was instrumental and Fr. Francis Veliyil was parish Priest. The blessings of Most. Rev. Bishop Stephen Rotluanga – bishop Aizawl Diocese was felt as we collaborate with the diocese in the educational and pastoral ministry.

The Main purpose of the mission is to “Establish the reign of God through Education and to uphold the moral values of the society.” The first Pioneers of the community were Srs. Monthi Dias and Maria Lynet Lobo.

The sisters render their services in the School as well as in pastoral work. They take responsibility to make the liturgical celebration meaningful and beneficial to the local community. They take care of the cleanliness of the local church, the altar, altar linen and the sacred vessels. They accompany the faithful in their spiritual journey by praying with them on every Saturday and Sunday in the church. The initiatives taken by the community are Rosary for the children on every Saturday and Prayer.
