“Kalpi is a small town situated on the bank of Yamuna river in Jalaun district, Jhansi, U.P. The area is dominated by Hindus and Muslims and many of them are farmers. Rt. Rev. Bishop Frederick D’Souza then the Bishop of Jhansi had the dream to start a mission station. The dream began to take shape in 2008 February 8th.God worked to fulfil his dream in this way.
Fatima Mata mission Kalpi was established in the year 2012. In the same year Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo, Northern Province, Hatia, Ranchi were invited by Rt. Rev. Bishop Frederick D’ Souza to the Diocese of Jhansi to collaborate and share in the mission of the church through the ministry of Education. This invitation was responded with lots of joy by Sr. Sabina Kurian the Provincial Superior of Northern Province. Since Sr. Christine was in Jhansi as the Directress of Juniors, Sr. Sabina – Provincial had entrusted the responsibility to her to coordinate with the Bishop, visit the place, drawing of the contract etc. The Diocese has provided us a convent Building and a small piece of land to cultivate vegetables. On 31 December 2011 was the blessing of the foundation stone in the presence of our Sr. Christine Vas, along with other sisters from Jhansi. On 14th March Bishop Fredrick along with Fr. Peter, Srs. Christine and Agnes visited the newly built convent building to furnish the further requirement for the safe stay of the sisters in a new place. On June 17th 2012 was the blessing of the Convent which is named after Fatima Mata.
Sr.Veronica Quadros, Sr. Saroj Kindo and Sr. Suchita Kumari were the pioneers of this mission. All the sisters are full time teachers in the school. From three pioneers the apostolic activities were carried on, by giving love of God through education, to make Jesus known to the people of other faith, to educate the poor boys and girls of the locality. We do cater to nearby villages by family visits, coaching the children, taking care of the girl children etc.
